ALBERTO G. D'ATRI (+1962)

      • - Italian French Art historian that ruled Modigliani market during the 40's and 50's from his office store at 62 Rue de la Boetie in Paris
        (Curiously next door to Wildenstein, is it a sign???)
        Listed 329 paintings in his Catalogue raisonné  (which never saw the light.)
        · His work is quite notable at some points and crazy on others.
        He is the most forgotten of all.

        He had a good relation with Guillaume's heritage, Netter and Zborowski but as many others he played power with his opinion.

        It was going to be : "La Vie et l'Oeuvre de Modigliani Amedeo, 12 Juillet 1884 - 24 Janvier 1920 par Alberto G. d'Atri"
        It all finally was donated in boxes to the Smithsonian archives of American art.
        Some parts are on-line the rest in a future.

      • Very interesting to see the provenance and some lost or forgotten works

      Someday I will go to Washington DC to spend a week with those creepy old papers.
      He remind me so much a contemporary one...

      Actually his opinion is not even mentioned in the filling notes & records for the auction houses.
      But only when it also have the Ceroni name in the list...

      If a Modigliani painting only bears the opinion by Werner , it will never hit the floor of the main auction houses
      Definitively not a reliable or trustworthy source for cataloging.
