Other | - There is strong doubts over this painting. - The original owner Witte-Lenoir was a German painter in the school of Paris and he explained that the painting was received as a gift from Modigliani and that it suffered strong damages during the war (II WW) and that he had to strongly restore it. - Actually nor the surface or the style is coincident with the date he originally provided to the museum. - Actually the Museum Ludwig has the painting in storage and believe that the painting is by the hand of Witte- Lenoir. There is another portrait supposedly painted by Modigliani with the same provenance, a portrait of Witte-Lenoir that has more or less the same aspect and it was dated by Witte-Lenoir in 1907: Witte-Lenoir portrait dated in 1907 and attributed to Modigliani by Lenoir |
