Ceroni identifies the sitter as the wife of Georges Dorival (Georges Édouard Lemarchand, 1871–1939). This investigation gives the sitter’s name as Blanche Antonia James, née Blanche Dorival (1870–1946).

This investigation publishes photographs of the painting in Helena Rubinstein’s Park Avenue apartment, c. 1950–53.
