son of a famous philosopher, raised in Basel, Switzerland, studied art history at Basel University with a final thesys on the inffluence of primitive art in European art of 1900.
He became curator for various museums including Kassel Documenta, Venice Biennale, Sao Paolo Biennale, etc.
He was the german version of the star curator, among his many books only one by Modigliani, not a deep investigation, a recollection of notes & already published works, but some of his works were for that time quite unknown and show that he was close to the Netter collection.
