Other This painting is usually named as oil on canvas and newspaper collage:
collage of paper in Betrice hastings

But the newspaper is turned , to read it you should have to use a mirror, this image is already turned (see the R):

collage in mirror

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now after reading all this, can anybody explain me this image ??

it comes from Gothard Jedlicka, Modigliani, E. Rentsch, Zürich, 1953, page 29 and this is the exact image of the book, with no changes of any kind:

a close up of the newspaper area in the painting:

1.- The newspaper title say ...ER DES THEATRES
2.- Is much bigger, from the end of the T to the middle of the C, so is the whole column

Is it a critic's review of a play???

So the newspaper was changed and painted in white over and then the letters repainted again????

decide for yourself:

I bet the newspaper had some sense, something interesting over Hastings work, so the sense is now lost (is clearly not the same column & title) like the RIC letters, lost by a totally neglect restoration???

The "new" newspaper say "GIC" instead of "er des Théatres", nobody noticed?
???????
